Astronomy Summer School

School program

During the calendar year, the Observatory organizes astronomy courses, workshops for young people, seminars for teachers, public lectures for astronomy lovers, scientific conferences, and the Astronomical Summer School that we organize every summer (in mid-July) for elementary school students (from the fifth to the eighth grade) is especially well-known. The first Astronomical Summer School was held back in 1968 in Primošten. For many years the school was held on the island of Prvić and Brodarica near Šibenik, from 2013 to 2018 the school was held in Josipdol near Ogulin, while from 2019 we organize the summer school in Delnice. In Delnice, we use accommodation as part of the hiking center and resort “Petehovac”, which is located 1000 m above sea level and provides us with ideal conditions for observing the night sky and organizing the School. About 40 children from all over Croatia and abroad, 10 leaders and demonstrators usually participate in the School, and respected experts in the field of astronomy always participate as guest lecturers. As part of organizing the School, we try to provide symbolic gifts to all participants, and special prizes to the most successful in their work
